어느 날 호기심 많은 한 소년이 집 근처 산에서 독수리 알 한 개를 주웠다.

그리고는 집으로 가져와 닭장속에서 병아리를 까려는 암탉의 품안에 집어넣었다.

얼마 후 병아리들과 함께 새끼 독수리도 알에서 깨어났다.

그러나 새끼 독수리는 자기가 독수리라는 사실을 전혀 깨닫지 못한 채 다른 병아리들과 함께 어미 닭의 뒤를 열심히 따라다니며 그들과 똑같이 행동하였다.
